beautiful and functional
self defense tool, that in a pinch, also makes finding your key easier and more enjoyable!
Hearkening back to ancient times, we harvest and craft our bamboo by hand, using open flame to carefully heat treat and burnish each one.
This process removes starches rendering them intolerable to insects, and draws the plants natural oils to the surface, that when i
mmediately burnished by hand
(with a touch of Howard's Orange Oil),
protects and polishes the bamboo
.  This process also gives these their rich color and dark lines, which in our experience, through time and constant use
become warmer and more polished
.
We use the very bottoms of 2 or 3 year bamboo culms / AKA shoots. First year bamboo hasn't yet built up it's woody strength, and by year 4 begins to weaken if it remains in the ground, hence we only use two or three year old bamboo culms.  Additionally, in order to support the weight of the tall flexible grass, the walls of the bamboo nearest the ground are the thickest and strongest with the nodes closest together for
additional strength and durability,
and are therefore the only sections of the plant we use to craft these key chains.
Bamboo crafting is not a perfect art,
no two are the same, just like people
, with some bumps and bruises they've gathered along the way to add character!
NOTE
:  This listing is for ONE keychain, which will look similar but not exactly like any of those pictured.
SIZE:
Classic 6 inch . Sizes are give or take about 1/4 inch. Thickness varies from pencil to Sharpie diameters.  Holler if you have different lengths or specific diameters you want, I am happy to put together custom orders.
STYLE:
This is the classic pocket stick style.  Straight forward, no fuss, tough, beautiful, and functional.   Each keychain has at least 3 nodes with an inch and a quarter metal keyring on one end, a slight angle on the other.
The
best maintenance for bamboo key chains
, is constant use.
Oils from skin richen the colors and add durability and longevity to the bamboo.
If needed, a rub down with Howards Feed and Wax will revive bamboo's luster.
My
key chain has been on my keys for over 5 years, used daily, and still strong and functional, and more beautiful.
