    Description

    Fighting Robot, Horikawa, Japan, 1962:
In early 1962, Horikawa began marketing an 11 1/2-inch robot which combined the best elements from multiple platforms of other toy robots they produced:  the clear-plastic torso of the High Wheel and Engine Robots (1960's), and the chest-firing action of 11-inch Astronaut/Robots.  And because this was Horikawa, there were not one, but two, versions available (Robot and Space Man), giving kids both a hero and an adversary for playtime.  This toy, the Fighting Robot, is the automaton side of the equation:  its blockheaded format features an expressionless face along with a large yellow plastic dome, which lights up during operation.  Building on the successful chest-fire feature, Fighting Robot boasts a chest-mounted cannon which blasts at regular intervals during operation, panning the gun from side to side in classic pull-and-spray fashion, making a rat-a-tat-tat  sound as it fires, complete with muzzle flash!  Throughout the sequence, the robot walks forward (or tries to, in this case) and swings its arms.  Wire antennae loops project from the robot's neck location.  A fun toy with terrific action, Fighting Robot makes a great complement to any Fighting Space Man (also currently listed for auction).  Seller has owned robot for about 20 years, and recently put batteries in for the first time and it works!  Battery compartment is very clean.  This early-version of the Fighting Robot is in very nice condition, just a small bit of oxidation, mostly on eyes and some light paint crazing.  Clear torso cover and head dome are intact, not cracked.  This heavy and durable, stamped metal Robot operates as it should, with the exception of moving forward: legs move, but no forward motion. Possibly just a small adjustment to the foot cog needed to correct this.  Buyer pays shipping and insurance is required.  Ships to continental USA only.  Good luck bidders!  Please check our other auctions for more robots and other cool collectibles.
