This is a vintage Japanese wooden writing box of Yakumo lacquer ware, which was made about 50-60 years ago
.
Natural wood is coated with high quality Japanese lacquer (Not plastic one).
A landscape with a Japanese castle is hand-painted on the lid. This was made as any prize sent by OSAKA CITY mayor, Kaoru Nakama (It is written on the bottom).
Yakumo lacquer ware has been made in Matsue ciry of Shimane prefecture, Japan.
